Bright Club: Talking about your research, and making it funny while you’re at it

The first time I ever heard of Bright Club was when I received an email from its Belfast organiser, Niamh Scullion, asking me to speak at its most recent event, on the theme of ‘The City’.  I said yes and then spent several weeks wondering what on earth I’d let myself in for, and why?!?!

Bright Club, known as ‘the thinking person’s variety night’, was established in 2009 in London, by Dr Steve Cross, an academic at University College London, in collaboration with comedy promoters, with the idea to combine academic presentations with stand-up comedy, on-stage, in a comedy-club setting (more here).  Read the rest of this entry »
